Description

This is a 2x2 mosaic.  PixInsight was used for the calibration and post-processing.  AstroPixelProcessor was used to create the mosaic panels.  A light touch of Topaz DenoiseAI was used at the end to improve the noise since each panel is only about 5hrs. (total mosaic 21hrs)

IC 1848 is an open cluster of stars surrounded by a cloud of gas and dust 150 light years across.  It is located in the constellation Cassiopeia about 6500 light years from Earth.  The cluster of stars formed about a million years ago from the material of the nebula. Winds and ultraviolet light from these young stars are excavating a cavity in the cloud. Parts of the cloud that are more dense than their surroundings are being eroded more slowly and form giant towers, or pillars of dust and gas, which all point toward the central star cluster.
